Lake Belton JV battled throughout the evening and secured the match win over Gateway College Preparatory in three sets; 25-21, 22-25 and 25-10.
The Broncos started the third set determined to secure the win opening with a 4-0 run, the first point coming from a Dylan Presley kill to the empty back left corner of the Gator court.
Once ahead, Lake Belton proceeded to distance themselves to a 12-5 lead before Gateway used its first timeout of the period.
Presley and Trinaty Pearson each had an ace in the set and Shelby Schultz added another two.
But it was a 9-0 run late in the stanza with Presley leading the Broncos with two kills, a dink and a defensive block that pulled Lake Belton to a secure 23-9 lead.
The match win was secured with an ace served up by Haley Hoffman.
The Broncos had traded the lead with the Gators twice before Gateway found their second wind in the second set.
Lake Belton battled to the very end as Pearson served up four unanswered points to bring the Broncos within two points of Gateway, 24-22.
The game point for the Gators came on a dink that Madison White dived to keep in play, but the Broncos could not recover in time as they dropped the set.
Lake Belton and Gateway opened the match tying nine times in the first stanza before the Broncos pulled away late in the period to take the win.
The Broncos continue their second round of district competition facing the Eagles in Salado on Friday.
