The first ever Bronco Bowl happened Tuesday night when North Beltons B Team split into 2 equally divided Bronco Teams. The Golden Shoe was on the line and all 42 Bronco athletes left it all on the field.
Bronco Red received the kickoff and began driving down the field with tough running by Anthony Seals. The White defense found some extra effort and was able to stop Red at the 20 yard line. White began their drive and was able to get a first down but couldn’t keep it going and had to punt. Bronco Red was able to keep their strong running going and got into the end zone with great blocking from Canyon Burke and the rest of the O-Line. The score was 6-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Bronco White began putting the ball in the air and driving the field. Quarterback Cooper Mees connected with Hudson Nix for a 52 yard touchdown connection. Both defenses stood strong the rest of the half. Bronco Red was driving near the end zone and the scoring hopes were dashed when Safety Terrance Taylor intercepted a pass over the middle. The half ended knotted up at 6.
The second half of the Bronco Bowl was filled with scoring and fast paced play. The Red and White team traded scores throughout the half and tensions rose as the clock was getting near zeros.
Bronco started the scoring with a touchdown to Zachary Rahm. The play started as pitch to the running back but when Bronco White attacked the ball carrier Leonisio Garcia, he through it up and connected with Rahm for the touchdown. The PAT was no good and Red led 12-6. White took over and drove down the field with short passes and outside runs. Mees connected with Nix at the 1 yard line just short of the end zone. Cooper Mees lined up under center and pushed it in for the TD. The PAT by Jaxon Kreischer was good and White led 14-12. Bronco Red couldn’t move the ball on offense and the White team took over. A tipped pass was intercepted by Cole Mikulas on the far side and he ran it back for the Pick 6. The one point PAT attempt was good when kicker Kevin Muchunu ran in into the end zone. Bronco Red had the lead going into the 4th quarter 14-19.
The fourth quarter began with the White team driving down the field. The outside was ready to be attacked and running back Christian Morales did just that. He ended a big play drive with a 25 yard touchdown run. The PAT attempt was missed and White led 20-19. Bronco Red wasn’t done scoring in this busy second half, a tough run setup by good blocking from the line allowed QB Cole Mikulas to run up the far side for a 35 yard touchdown. The PAT by Muchunu was good and Red again had the lead with a score of 20-27. A little over 3 minutes remained in the game as Bronco White offense took the field. A few short passes were completed and the offense was at the Red 15 yard line. The play call for the QB was sent in and the O-Line did their job, Mees was able to scamper in for a 15 yard touchdown. The score was 26-27 in favor of Bronco Red as the White team took the field for the 2 point PAT attempt. The snap and hold were good, Jaxon Kreischer kicked it through the uprights and White took the lead 28-27. The final 53 seconds were fast paced and exciting. With the Red offense on the field they didn’t have much time to score and eventually ran out of timeouts while at the White teams 28 yard line. Bronco White defense stood strong and forced 3 straight incompletions as the time on the clock reached zero. The Bronco Bowl was taken by North Belton White in a close and exciting game. Players were seen hugging each other on the field following the final incompletion. Thanks to the Coaches at Lake Belton High School and to the Officials for allowing North to play North, it was memorable.
