The Lake Belton Broncos’ freshman volleyball team took the road on Friday afternoon to take on district opponent Salado.

The Broncos built big leads in both games. However, the relentless pursuit of the Lady Eagles was felt, and big streaks resulted in a two-game sweep.

The scores of the contest were 25-21 and 25-23.

Lake Belton and Salado played point-for-point early before three kills and two blocks by Hannah Wood fueled a 12-2 run to give the Broncos a 14-5 lead.

The Eagles responded with a 9-0 run to tie the match at 14-14.

Hailey Mauer’s kill in the Salado midcourt ended the run, leading to the teams trading the lead three times in the midpoint of the game.

Salado’s 7-3 push down the stretch gave the Eagles the opening game win by four points.

Lake Belton’s 6-1 start paved the way to a 17-9 advantage in the second game. Hailey Mauer provided a kill and Alanah Bible had a pair of aces.

The Eagles went on an 11-3 run which tied the game at 20-20.

Lake Belton had a 22-20 lead before a Salado ace gave the Eagles the momentum to finish the match with the minimum two-point win.
