The Lake Belton Broncos’ junior varsity volleyball team took the road on Friday evening to take on district opponent Salado.
More than that, it was coaching matchup between coach and player. Lake Belton Coach Jamie Brown played for Salado Coach Diane Konarik when the two were at Belton.
The Broncos built a big lead in the opener. However, the energy of the Salado volleyball team was felt with a late streak in the first game and 11-3 run in the second game to sweep Lake Belton.
The scores were 25-23 and 25-19.
Casey Shultz and Trinaty Pearson had early kills to energize the Broncos.
The teams traded streaks, as the 5-0 run by Salado was answered with 7-0 Bronco streak to equal the game at 10-10.
Dylan Presley had two kills, and Angie DeLeon and Haley Hoffman each had a kill in a 10-3 run to give Lake Belton a 20-13.
The Lady Eagles soared back with a 12-3 finished to take the opening game by the two-point minimum.
Presley had an early ace and kill to push the Broncos out to a 5-3 lead in the second game.
Salado and Lake Belton were tied at 9-9 when the Eagles used a 12-3 flight to take a 21-12 lead.
The Broncos fought back with a 7-3 run. However, the run was ended on a rotation violation which subsequently ended the match.
Lake Belton will host Taylor Tuesday at Bronco Gym.
